Rural and Community Development
SWWFRC run a variety of programmes and activities that promote and encourage social inclusion for all members of the south west Wexford community.
We work through the principles of community development of being open to and encouraging participation by all sections of our community.
We aim to offer new opportunities for individual development, training, education and offer support services particularly to those lacking choice, resources and power in our activities. We also offer support and work with the community and other groups to promote positive changes in policy that affect them. Groups supported include;

Some community Development Activities in 2018 included :
Pocket Book Music Camp’; the pocket book music camp was facilitated by Andi McGarry and SWWFRC. The aim of the programme was to involve young people in the arts and in particular introduce them to the work of music and participation. This accommodated 23 student from the Local Primary school from 5th and 6th class. There was a closing finale in the school hall to showcase the 3 songs that the group wrote, played and recorded. This was a great success.
Parents Awareness Week (PAW); Tusla funded and promoted the importance of getting families in the community involved and aware of services within their community. SWWFRC held an open day, that consisted of a coffee and scone morning, book sale, stands in the activity room highlighted the role of TUSLA, Family Support, ReAD, Glor, Childcare and the services available within the service such as Groups (Men’s shed, Women’s groups, Parent and Toddler group, Horticulture group, St. Louis Stitcher’s, Men with Camera’s, Slimming World, Book Club and yoga). The best part of the day was working with 50 children from the local primary school who came to the centre for face painting, arts and crafts and story time. The feedback from the children and their parents was fantastic.
