Playgroup
Playgroup provides care and early education for 17 children ages from 3-to 4 years. Children attending this room can avail of the Free Pre School Scheme or the CCS Community Childcare Subvention Scheme. There are 3 childcare staff in this room.
Early Learning Curriculum in Playgroup
In Playgroup, we believe that play is the most powerful medium through which young children learn. All children in playgroup are encouraged to actively participate in a range of age appropriate play and learning activities in both structured and unstructured settings including free play, imaginary play, circle time, story time, song time and outside play time. All activities enhance the child’s stages of development.
Activities include;
Home Corner Hospital/hairdressers/Office, Dressing up clothes/ kitchen, work bench.
Creative Area Painting on table, easel, junk modelling, clay, dough, collage, cutting, glueing
Sand /Water Play Buckets, spades, bottles, water wheels, jugs, funnels. – feeding our gold fish !
Book Area Story time, puppets, story tapes, news and weather chart/ helper of the week.
Construction Play Duplo, lego, stickle blocks, large floor blocks, magnetic fishing game.
Small World Pay Pirate ship, dolls house/farm set, garage, play people.
Music Area Songs, musical instruments, dancing and moving to music, sounds game.
Quiet Area/Table Puzzles, threading, sorting.
Outdoors Pedalling bikes, dolls and prams, climbing frames, ball games, gardening activities, nature walks around the grounds. Giant parachute,, skittles, obstacle course, Willow Tunnel. Visiting the mobile library.
Siolta
We follow the Siolta guidelines. These are a national set of standards for early childhood education. They support and guide staff in enhancing the quality of early childhood experiences.
Aistear
We follow Aistear, the curriculum framework for children from birth to six years in Ireland. It provides information for adults to help them plan for and provide enjoyable and challenging learning experiences, so that all children can grow and develop as competent and confident learners.
